INTEGRATION aims at sustainable inner urban development and brownfield revitalisation. Ecological and social aspects are to be included into adequate urban planning concepts. Socially housebuilding on brownfield areas should be facilitated by public participation including de-prived people.

The generation of healthy working and living conditions on urban brownfield areas is an important contribution to achieve an adequate urban environmental quality. This requires a health risk based handling of contamination in the frame of the contaminated sites management. The administrative competences on local level concerning an environmental friendly and social urban development will be strengthened. If necessary, recommendations for suitable legal regulations in the sphere of environmental and human health protection will be elaborated. Public awareness in terms of a containment of urban sprawl and sustainable inner urban development taking into account a minimum standard for the quality of life will be achieved.
